« Back to Glossary Index

Oxygenic photosynthesis generates O2, while anoxygenic photosynthesis doesn’t generate O2. Oxygenic photosynthesis is used by the cyanobacteria, algae and plants. Several other organisms groups – mainly purple bacteria, green sulfur and nonsulfur bacteria,  heliobacteria and acidobacteria – use anoxygenic photosynthesis.
